|just how risky is open mouth kissing an infected partner?
May 22, 2001
i am sure that you get this question quite often...but, i am kind of concerned...one of my close friends just told me that he was HIV infected..i have realized that over the past month though we have been open mouth kissing...just how risky is this behavior??? my tongue was quite sensitive during the time we were kissing due to burning it...does this pose a higher risk?? is that considered an open sore even though there was no blood on the tongue? i would greatly appreciate your response. thank you--

Kissing is a very low risk activity. Only one case of possible transmission through kissing has been investigated by the CDC, and the findings were not conclusive. Please read through "Newest information on deep kissing" (http://www.thebody.com/Forums/AIDS/SafeSex/Archive/TransmissionNon/Q2965.qna), "Length of Kissing" (http://www.thebody.com/Forums/AIDS/SafeSex/Archive/TransmissionSexual/Q13008.qna), and "Kissing Panic!!!"
