hiv and valtrex

Aug 23, 2014

Please answer me mr.Glenn I am gay and I had received anal sex.

Does valtrex affect HIV results? Some websites claim it does affect??? I got tested 3.generation Eliza tests after using Valtrex(after55days.) It is negative. Do I need another test? Please tell me...please

Response from Mr. Glenn

Thanks for your question,

Many things can affect a HIV test result, but rarely. That being said, let's be more concerned with how long you wait to get a test (at least 3 months), whether your sex was protected (only unprotected sex is risky), and if your test actually gave you a result ("affected" test results usually mean "no result" or indeterminate result that can't be read one way or the other).

Basically, if you waited at least 3 months after the sex you had and got a negative result, then trust it! The tests are good at what they do.

Hope this helps,
