|before pep starts fighting

when starting pep, within the 72 hour window, when taken truvada/isentress in first 12 hours. how long does it take the med before its starts fighting the hiv infection?
| Response from Dr. Wohl
HIV meds do not fight the virus. They act as a sort of birth control for HIV, preventing it from making copies of itself. PEP acts to stop any virus that comes into our system from gaining a foothold and reproducing. The immune system can then attack and clean up without infection being established.
Studies show PEP works if started within hours of exposure. So, it works quickly. Levels of these drugs rise immediately with ingestion.
