Can I get infected if I drink water that has HIV infected blood in it?
May 12, 2014

I was Playing soccer yesterday with my little cousins. I found a family playing so i Joined them. After the game they offered me Cold water. So I drank it, I did not taste anything weird, but I'm still worried that they might have put HIV infected blood in it. I do not think I had any open wounds or cuts in my mouth, but I'm still scared and could not sleep last night. Can HIV blood survive in water ? specially cold water ?

Response from Mr. Glenn

Even if they put HIV infected blood in the water, there would be no risk of infection. The HIV wouldn't survive long enough outside the human body.

What I'm curious about is why this would even be something you're curious about?? This would be a VERY unusual thing to do.

Hope this helps,

Erik
