I gave oral sex and tasted a little pre-cum
Feb 26, 2014
I gave a long time friend oral sex. I'm not sure how many partners he has had. He says he plays it safe and practices safe sex. I have no cuts or open sores in my mouth, but I did taste just a tad bit of pre-cum on the tip of y tongue. I just spit the taste out cleaned his penis and continued just for a few seconds. Then I put a condom on him and continued after. What are my chances of getting HIV? I'm freaking out
Response from Dr. Hightow-Weidman
Hello there Oral sex is a very inefficient way to acquire HIV. The mouth does not contain the type of cells that HIV likes to infect. One study from Europe that followed couples where one person was HIV+ and the other HIV- failed to find a case of HIV transmission despite unprotected oral sex. If you remain worried you can certainly get tested for HIV. By 4 weeks after the encounter, antibodies to HIV are typically detected by standard HIV tests. Please be aware that syphilis, herpes simplex virus, and gonorrhea can certainly be transmitted by oral sex.
