Touching Urine Door Handle.
Jan 31, 2014
Hi, I recently grabbed a door handle that was previously urinated on judging by the smell of my palms. My palms were a bit wet. Can HIV get into the bloodstream from my skin through contact like this? I didn't experience any flu or anything after. I just really want to know if I am at risk for the disease.
Response from Dr. Hightow-Weidman
Hello there- You must have either very short doors or very tall and talented people to be able to urinate directly on a door handle without creating what I would think would be a very large mess. Anyway, that not withstanding, urine does not transmit HIV and so touching the said pee infected handle would not result in HIV transmission. Take care, Dr. W
