Hiv survival
Nov 24, 2013

Would hiv survive on an earring for long? Can you give an approximate time , and also , woul rinsing the earring kill the virus?

Response from Ms. Southall

Hi HIV begins to die once it leaves the body and is unable to infect. You can also not get HIV from casual contact which would include sharing earrings. There would have to be active bleeding from both of you and there would have to be a significant amount of blood on the earring enough so that you wouldn't want to put it in.

Always cleaning earring before you put them on is always a good thing as you don't know who has tried them on before you. This is not protection from HIV but from other types of bacteria. Always clean items before you use them on you just a good habit to get into as colds and virus's can be passed this way.

Be well and stay safe, Shannon
