needle struck
Sep 9, 2013

Hi,i injured myself from a needle in a public place, injury was not deep, but a drop of micoscopic blood comes out,i am fear of hiv, cant able to decide what to do,plz suggest do i need to test for that,i am getting symptoms like 100f fever cough, swollen gland behind ear and weakess on 6th week

Response from Mr. Cordova

Hi there,

Transmission of HIV was unlikely in this case. HIV does not live well outside of the human body. Any virus present would be unable to infect you. There is the possibility that you were exposed to Hepatitis C, which can live outside of the human body for an extended period of time.

I would suggest a Hepatitis C test and an HIV test at the 90 day mark just to be safe.

If your symptoms continue or get worse, then a visit to the doctor is in order.

In health,

Richard
