Scared I got infected by a child!
Sep 4, 2013

Hi I work at a child care facility. There was a child who's nose was bleeding so I handed him a tissue, and now I'm scared some of his blood got on me. If he was HIV-positive (which I don't know if he is) would I be at risk?? I have some torn cuticles and a cut on my arm, but no other open woulds. Thanks!!

Response from Ms. Southall

Hi No risk! Transmission of HIV from a contaminated surface would require massive exposure to blood or other infected liquid for a prolonged period of time. You cannot get HIV from sharing utensils, drinking after someone etc.... Handing a child or an adult a kleenex in your situation does not pose a risk.

Be well and stay safe, Shannon
