HIV test after 60days
Aug 1, 2013
Had protected vaginal sex with a girl using a condom, and as far as I know the condom did not break. Before I put the condom on my penis touch the outside of her vigina, but did not go inside her till the condom was on. Had a negitive blood test at 34days and 60days. Should I get another test is my question? Thank you.
Response from Ms. Southall
Hi Condoms are effective in the prevention of HIV transmission, as long as they are used correctly and do not break or slip off. Also if lubricant is used it must be water based. So you did what you needed to do to protect yourself. As for testing, guidelines state that having a test 90 days after possible exposure gives you accurate results.
With having protected sex and a negative test at 34 days I feel comfortable stating that your risk of HIV transmission is extremely low but would also encourage you to get tested again at 90 days just for peace of mind for yourself.
Be well and stay safe, Shannon
