Do i need to take PEP?
Jul 29, 2013
i was having protected anal sex with another guy. casual sex. We'd been having sex for 10 mins or so. As he was re entering the condom split. We both felt it split just as he was entering and he withdrew very very quickly. ....we continued a bit with a new condom and then finished ... i noticed later i was bleeding slightly from my bottom after sex. (haemorrhoids i think). I asked the guy if i need to be concerned, and he said he was not HIV+ ...he also said not to worry as he was a Rent Boy....this happened about 6 hours ago.... should i take PEP?
Response from Dr. Hightow-Weidman
Hi there From what I can tell there was a period of time where you and your partner were engaging in unprotected anal sex and you were the receptive partner. This would constitute a possible risk for acquiring HIV. Since your partners HIV status is also not known for sure, I would encourage you to talk with a medical provider about PEP if within the 72 hour window time frame. If not, I would recommend being tested for HIV. Standard tests are very accurate at 28 days and near conclusive at 90 days. take care, LHW
