Early HIV detection test done at 33 days
Jul 27, 2013

Hello Dr.Wohl , I had an unprotected sex with a female co-worker(vaginal) . I have taken the early hiv test by lab corp and the results came negative. HIV DNA, PCR/HIV Ab 01 HIV−DNA by PCR 01 Negative HIV DNA RT by PCR HIV−1 DNA NOT DETECTED My question is ho reliable is the test after 33 days of possible exposure ? Should I be worried ? if there is a case of shingles few days after the test was taken could this be a sign of early hiv symptoms ? I thank you for your time and help. Regards Mark

Response from Dr. Wohl

Dear Mark,

Did you have HIV RNA or DNA testing done? Either way the tests show no evidence of HIV infection. They are reliable and would be positive within a couple weeks of infection. Shingles would not be expected to happen as a manifestation of acute HIV.

You are not infected.
