|Risk of HIV/STD transmission through a cold sore
Jun 30, 2013
If one performs oral sex on a man and has a cold sore on their lip, how much of a risk is there of contracting HIV or another STD? The cold sore wasn't bleeding nor had it bled but the outer crust had been peeled off earlier that day. There was no swallowing of semen involved. Spitting of what was possibly pre cum occurred and saliva passed over the cold sore. Also, the oral sex had stopped before the man ejaculated.

I do not think the cold sore does that much in terms of risk for STIs. Certainly the virus that causes cold sores, HPV, can be transmitted from such lesions.
