Can blood spill on floor cause infection?
Apr 28, 2013
Hi im a phlebotomist i work for a hematology/ oncology doc abd i think i am suffering from anxiety and ocd desorders due to what i have seen at work. My question is can blood spill on floor cause infection or transmitt infection? There has been a few time i had seen blood spills and have stepted on blood a few times. Could there be any ways that it can transmitt hiv or hepatitis c or any infection to us?
Response from Mr. Glenn
Thanks for your question,
The problem isn't whether there are blood spills on the floor but rather if infectious blood gets inside your body. That's going to depend on a couple things: how long the blood's been around (did it just come out of someone's body?) and if the blood has a way to get into your body (it won't happen through your shoe).
Hope this helps!
