Do you have to be tested for the rest of your life
Apr 20, 2013

A girl i work with had a friend who passed from AIDS and it was a sudden thing and he never got checked until he ended up very sick, well his girlfriend just had a baby with him and they had to both be tested and both test came back negative, but my friend says that she and her baby has to get check for the rest of their lives because HIV lies dormant.. Is this true? Do they have to keep getting tested even when the test comes back negative?

Response from Mr. Glenn

Thanks for your question,

This is absolutely NOT TRUE. HIV may "lie dormant" in a person's body, but that has no effect on a HIV test's ability to pick it up. If she and her baby have been in conversations with her doctor and tested at the right time, there is no more need to be tested.

Hope this helps!

Erik
