tested Negative

Apr 10, 2013

I had unprotected sex in 2009 have no symptoms, in 2012 in a very reputed hospital i got tested and it came back negative. will i still have HIV??? from 2010 i have been having blisters in genitals which was now diagnosed as HSV 2 so i am worried. cos of HSV 2 will i also have HIV.

Response from Ms. Southall

Hi The HIV testing guidelines are to be initially tested at 3 weeks post exposure and then again at 90 days and as long as there are no other exposures during this time the results are conclusive. Having your "risk" in 2009 and being tested in 2012 and that test being negative you are HIV. Having HSV does not mean you also have HIV. They are two separate sexually transmitted infections. Though do remember when you have an outbreak your risk of receiving another STI increase.

Be well and stay safe, Shannon

Need help, I am scared!!!!!!!!!
