Bleeding lips and HIV transmission
Apr 2, 2013
Dearest Doctor, Thank you so much in advance for answering my question. I had recently, under the influence of alcohol, French kissed a stranger extensively for three times each around a minute or so. Recently I've been having dry and chapped lips along with some cracks and bleeding from the dryness. I don't know if my lips were freshly bleeding while we kissed and I don't know the condition of his lips/mouth. My question is: with my chapped and possibly bleeding lips, is my situation considered high-risked should the other party have cracked and chapped lips too with some blood?
Response from Mr. Cordova
I would not be concerned. Transmission in a situation like this would be highly unlikely. Is it possible? Yes. Is is probable? No.
I do not think you need to test for this incident in particular. You can wait until your regularly scheduled round of STD testing.
