|Possible Exposure extremely worried
Mar 30, 2013
This may seem like a strange question. But, I really need an answer. In the back of my mind I can't help but to worry. A few months ago one of my students got sticky burrs on her hands. I use my fingers to take them off of her hands. She did not bleed and I didn't feel the sticky burr go into my skin when I took it off. I grabbed it from the top and didn't touch the part that went in her skin. But, I wanted to know if hiv transmission is possible from this if the girl has hiv. What if it did pierce my skin as well? Would it have to go deep under the skin to the blood stream? I feel like I just need the reassurance from my over active mind. Please.

Hi HIV transmission through this experience is not possible. There would have to be a significant amount of blood and yes it would have to be a deep cut or poke into your skin. Rest assured there was not a risk of HIV transmission with this experience.
Be well and stay safe, Shannon
