|unprotected anal sex if both test negative same night
Mar 22, 2013
If I and a partner take the newly fda approved oral hiv test together and are negative- is it relatively safe to have unprotected anal sex that night..if not - why?
| Response from Mr. Cordova
Thanks for writing in. An HIV test is only conclusive as of 90 days PRIOR to the actual test. Someone who was infected within 90 days of their test might not show up positive on their test. For most people, they will show up positive by the 28th day. Even then, you can't take a test, get a negative result, and then safely engage in unprotected sex.
If you and your partner have been monogamous for the past 90 days then that would be a different story. In that case, yes, you could have unprotected sex. I hope that helps.
