|Possible HIV/AIDS transmission?
Mar 17, 2013
Hi Dr. Southall
Yesterday, I gave a homeless man a cigarette but he touched my hand. I immediately went upstairs and washed my hands but a few minutes later while I was working on some papers, I started to touch a pimple on my eyebrow area and popped it. Is it possible that I got HIV/AIDS from this? I didn't see any blood or feel anything wet on my hand after he touched me (It was at night) but if he had dried blood, semen, or ulcers, can I get HIV/AIDS from this if I pop a pimple afterwards? Is a popped pimple deep enough for the HIV/AIDS virus to enter into the bloodstream? I know this question is ridiculous and I feel horrible that I feel this way just because he was homeless but I just can't get it out of my mind.

HI You cannot get HIV from casual contact. Touching someone and then touching yourself is not a risk for transmission. Your experience whether or not this person was homeless or not did not pose a risk.
You are fine,
Be well and stay safe, Shannon
