| Blood on Finger flicked in eye Feb 28, 2013 Hi Shannon Just expanding on a question asked in archives on April 28th 2012, blood on finger wind blowing. You say this is not a route for transmission but if someone was waving their hand around with a bloody cut finger and a drop of blood got in my eye and they were hiv+ would this be a route for transmission? |

Response from Ms. Southall
HI If HIV infected blood were to get into someone's eye, yes because of the mucous membranes this would be a way for HIV transmission to occur, but!!!!! the risk is incredibly low, the blood would have to get into the eye immediately from the person with HIV, their HIV viral load would have to be very high for there to be a risk of transmission. So yes again transmission is possible, but no probable. Be well and stay safe, Shannon | |||||||||
