transmission of hiv from a human bite

Jan 3, 2013

dear docter on dec 5th 2012 i had sex with a prostitue working in a brothel while having an intercourse the lady bit me on the neck leaving a dark scar and im pretty sure that there was no bleeding but im not sure whether she had blood in her mouth and now im little bit worried if i might get contracted or get infected with HIV ?

Response from Ms. Southall

Hi, Getting HIV from your experience is not possible. There needs to be an open area for HIV to enter into your body. Since the skin was not broken there was no way for HIV to enter. Also getting HIV through a bite is a very low risk. It is not transmitted through saliva. Your risk of HIV transmission did not come from the bite rather from having sex, and as long as it was protected you are fine there as well.

Be well and stay safe, Shannon
