Hiv test in jail Dec 31, 2012 Hi my brother is in jail and he requested a hiv test because he has never had one he told me had unprotected sex with a few girls a while ago definately over three months ago. My brother told me they tested him with an oral swab and that they will give him the results in two weeks. I thought that oral swabs were rapid test and should have the results right there and then. My first question is how long would a oral fluid specimen stay stable for a?My second question is how reliable would this test method be? And my final question is should he just retest himself when he gets out? |

 Thanks for your question, What you're describing is one type of rapid test. It's very reliable. But you're right, there's another oral test that will give results after about 20 minutes. Hope this helps! Erik | ||||||||
