HIV Transmission (Non-Sexual Risks)
Dec 27, 2012
I recently had a blood test at a medical lab. Just before removing the needle, the technician retrieved a dropped vial from the floor but did not change or clean his latex gloves before folding the gauze to cover my wound. I did not see any obvious signs of blood on the floor, and I removed the gauze after about 20 minutes. Should i still be concerned about contamination? Thank you for your response.
Response from Ms. Southall
Hi No need to be concerned! HIV dies once it is outside of the body. Yes not the best clean technique by the technician in not changing gloves after picking something up off the floor but again no risk of HIV transmission through this.
Be well and stay safe, Shannon
