Am I at risk?

Dec 4, 2012

Hello, I had unprotected sex with my ex boyfriend, the relationship last about a year, then we broke up.. This happened 4 years ago. He is normal person, don't go to clubbing or anything, dont use drugs,But he never told me about his past( like if he had high risk exposure) So I don't know his history, he had a few ex girl friends, but not at the same time. while we had sex, he never came inside me. always pull out. Now i plan to get married and move on. I dont have any symptoms. But Should I get tested just to be sure? What the risk are there? Thank you.

Response from Ms. Southall

Hi The quick answer is yes you should. You had unprotected sex. HIV transmission occurs when there is a direct exchange of body fluid. Having unprotected sex allows this to happen. My recommendation is that you and your fiance' both get a health screening which should include sexually transmitted infections. This way you both are sure of your status.

Be well and stay safe, Shannon
