Could I have contracted HIV?
Nov 23, 2012
Firstly I would like to say the work you guys do on here is amazing. I had unprotected sex 9 weeks ago now with a girl from Cape Town, not a sex worker, just a girl I met. I am unaware of her status but have a feeling she has had a number of partners. It lasted for about 15 mins, vaginal only. Since then I have to date had no rash, no fever but my lymph nodes became swollen with sore throat appeared at 5 weeks with a slight ear infection and a white coated tongue that has now gone after treating for oral thrush.
My bowel movements changed significantly during this period of worry and I have been having sleepless nights. I had an ELISA test at 4 weeks which came back negative. The doctor also diagnosed me with IBS!!
I am worried I have contracted HIV with the symptoms I am showing. I feel drained and tired all the time. I am constantly checking my lymph nodes all over my body now and my testicles are really sore. Can you help with some hard hitting facts?
Thanks in advance.

Fact is you need to get tested for HIV and other STI's. Only then will you know if your symptoms are related to this encounter or not.
