What are my chances?
Nov 21, 2012

What are my chances of contracting hiv if only the tip of the needle punctured my skin? The hollow part of the needle did not get inside my skin. In short, no blood (or possibly blood from the tip of the needle) form the patient was introduced to me. Thank you for your time.

Response from Dr. Hightow-Weidman

Hello I would say your chances are very very low no or negligible if no or very little blood was exchanged. The CDC website can provide some more exact percentages based on data they have on transmissions. Take care,
