oraquick mouth swab
Oct 27, 2012
would an oraquick mouth swap be fairly accurate at 11 weeks past possible exposure? I know the rule is 13 weeks and will retest then, but would it actually pick up hiv in most cases by 11 weeks on an oraquick?
Response from Ms. Southall
Hi Oral test are just as accurate of blood testing and the guidelines for HIV testing are to be initially tested at 3 weeks then again at 3 months, if both of these tests are negative then so are you, as long as there were no other types of exposure during that 3 month period, if so then the timing starts over again. The guidelines for HIV testing are to be initially tested at 3 weeks then again at 3 months, if both of these tests are negative then so are you, as long as there were no other types of exposure during that 3 month period, if so then the timing starts over again.
Be well and stay safe, Shannon
