Risk after oral exposure.
Sep 16, 2012

63 days ago I received unprotected oral sex, kissed with a split lip, and perhaps kissed some vaginal secretions briefly. Since then I've been sick. Oral Thrush. Sore throat. Nausea, swollen glands, fatigue, headaches, tingling in extremities.

HIV DNA PCR at 19 days negative. HIV Elisa at 4 weeks negative. p24 DUO at 5 weeks negative. Elisa at 7 weeks negative. HIV RNA PCR at 8 weeks negative.

(also Chy. Gon. negative twice, RPR neg. twice (most recently 7 weeks, Herpes neg., hepatitis titer neg.)

I coerced the female into taking a complete panel (recently) at ~8 weeks post exposure. She was neg. for everything except herpes I. Her HIV still hasn't come back yet! it's been like two weeks, and I'm freaking out.

After this amount of negative testing... Isn't the possibility I have HIV something like one in a million? What else could this be?

Response from Dr. Wohl

Why are you freaking out? All your tests (and there were many) are HIV negative. I have no idea why you have your symptoms, but you are not HIV positive.
