hiv from used condom
Sep 16, 2012

If my hand grazed a used condom that I was removing from a child's playground would I be at risk for hiv? The condom must have been there over night at least and I did not have a cut on my hand. I know hiv dies quickly but what about the semen inside the condom? Since it was trapped in the rubber would that be technically preserved the way hiv is inside of a syringe leaving even 24 hour semen still with full hiv infection? Worried about all kids that may someday come across used rubbers in their play area. Thanks.

Response from Dr. Wohl

There is no risk from touching a used condom. It is gross but will not transmit HIV.
