Can I ge AIDS touching someones urinal?
Sep 12, 2012
I work In a hospital doing food service. I'm not suppose to touch urinals or anything like that. I howerever had to clear the table. There was a urinal with a little bit a urine in it. Earlier in the day I had a hang nail and ripped it off. I don't believe there was any urine around the part I touched but I was wondering if there was a chance I could become infected of the patient were to have HIV.
Response from Dr. Hightow-Weidman
Hello there No, touching the urinal would not pose a risk for HIV transmission. While HIV is found in the urine of an infected person, it is not possible to contract HIV from contact with the urine of an HIV-positive person because there are too few virus particles in this fluid. Take care,
