| Stress and Worrying..Please Help dont ignore Aug 26, 2012 4 weeks ago i had a protected sex with sex worker of about 2 mins and gentle kissing involved. After that i verified the condoms did not fail. Some of my friends said that escorts mostly infected. So it made me crazy. After 21 days mark i went for the below and got my results. Please advice. HIV-1 RNA, QA, RT PCR - Result: Negative HIV Anitbody, HIV - 1/2, EIA with Reflex to Western Blot - Result - NON REACTIVE - Negative 1. Can I move on without any fear of infection? 2. Do I need to take test after 8 or 12 weeks? |

Response from Ms. Southall
Hi Having protected sex reduces the chances of HIV transmission dramatically so good choice! The guidelines for HIV testing are to be initially tested at 3 weeks then again at 3 months, if both of these tests are negative then so are you, as long as there were no other types of exposure during that 3 month period, if so then the timing starts over again. With the HIV RNA, AQ test result being negative you are most likely negative. I would however recommend the testing again at 3 months but am confident that you test will be negative as well at that point. Be well and stay safe, Shannon | |||||||||
