Non-Sexual Risk
Aug 13, 2012

If I am in a public bathroom, and possibly touch blood (menstrual or other), then insert a tampon, thereby touching my mucous membranes, am I at any risk whatsoever for HIV infection? Obviously, assume that the blood in question is HIV infected. Thank you.

Response from Dr. Wohl

This is one of those 'what if' questions that really can not be answered as the scenario is pretty fantastical. This does not happen in real life. My advice is to be careful with where you place your tampons.
