Hi madam, i got one HIV sample but i came to know it only after i collected. i collected it without wearing gloves, but in nurse gloves light drop of sample was there but i didnt touch it. after that i washed my hand two times with dettol and AHD hand sanitiser solution. am i safe from infection?. i am really so scared.

Response from Ms. Southall

Hi A little hard to understand your question but from what I can make of it ...... As long as you had no cuts or open sores on your hand there was no way for HIV transmission to occur. If you did have a cut or opening on your hand there would have to be a large volume of blood.

As a health care worker you should definitely talk with your supervisor for instruction on what to do when you feel there may have been an exposure. Every health care facility should have protocols in place for any type of occupational exposure.

Be well and stay safe, Shannon
