hiv
Jul 11, 2012

my husband is hiv pos my 5 year old with out warning grabbed his razor he used n cut her finger n yes it was bleeding ive been up puking all night can she get hiv this way?

Response from Dr. Hightow-Weidman

Hello there Overall it is highly unlikely that HIV would be transmitted to your child by using your husbands razor and cutting herself. Transmission through sharing/using a razor is not a likely event; there is no actual evidence that HIV has been transmitted this way. One explanation for this could be that HIV does not survive in the environment long. While you don't mention whether or not your husband is on medication to treat his HIV, but if he is and his viral load is low (undetectable) then the risk would be even lower/non-existent. I'm not sure any of this eases your worry but I hope so. Certainly getting your child tested makes sense but I do think that she will remain negative. Take care, LHW
