HIV
Jun 30, 2012

Hi Doctor You are doing a fantastic Job to the HIV World and a very nice person too. I have a question If fresh HIV positive blood which is coming out from the body goes into the cut or scratch or scrap which is not bleeding and blood is being coagulated and which is one hour is there a chance of hiv transmission.

Response from Ms. Southall

Hi Thank you for your compliment and we are happy to be here!

This is a risk of HIV transmission but there has to be a few additional things to increases this risk. The person who is bleeding has a high viral load and is not on medication and the wound the blood is going into is freshly open.

HIV transmission occurring this way carries a very low risk of infection .

Be well and stay safe, Shannon
