| HIV transmission Jun 12, 2012 I work at a physical therapy clinic. One of our patients, who happened to be HIV positive cut himself on one of our pillows and was bleeding. Maybe 30 - 45 minutes minutes later I went in to clean everything up. I tried to be cautious with the clean up, however when changing the pillow covers I ended up cuting myself against the pillow as well. Not sure if its the same spot we cut ourselves on, however there can't be too many sharp spots on a pillow, so I'm assuming it was. Is there a possibility of having contracted HIV from this incident? |

Response from Ms. Southall
Hi HIV dies once it is outside of the body so the chances of HIV transmission occurring this way is non existent. On another note, I would look into getting new pillows if there are risk of not only patients but providers cutting themselves on them!!!!! Be well and stay safe, Shannon | |||||||||
