| Dr. Wohl please explain this to me!!!! May 31, 2012 Hey there Dr. Wohl, When it comes to hiv and vomit is vomit actually capable of transmitting hiv or is it more of a theoretical risk? I've never heard of this actually happening to anyone. Another website I've read states visible blood needs to be present in the vomit which seems to make more sense. Also, how well does hiv as a virus, or in blood, survive in vomit? I'd think the acidic nature of vomit would neutralize it rather quickly. Thanks Dr. Wohl |

Response from Dr. Wohl
Transmission by vomit is not an issue. It is inhospitable for HIV for the reasons you outline. As with any bodily fluid, if there is a significant amount of blood present, then that changes things. Still, I think that this is not how people get HIV. DW | |||||||||
