dentist from india...craving for an opinion..dr wohl...please..please....
May 20, 2012

hello dr wohl..please pay ur attention to my problem that iam suffering for the past 3 to 4 years...i cant take any future steps in my life due to this and i am in depression too...i had a needle stick while treating a suspicious patient (patient had gingival necrosis due to spirochetal infection) in 2007 may 16 th..soon patient blood tested at the clinic and found that it was negative...the technitian told me that it was negative..pep not taken..fever of intermittant type started 3 to 5 days later..i shocked and consulted physician and found elevated lymphocyte count..hiv rapid tests done at 1 month,3,6,9,1 year,3 year 4 year mark...tests kits are immunocomb tridot,combaids..the recent was sd bioline kit ...the real problem is that i have persistant tongue coat present for more than 3 to 4 years..since iam a dentist iam sure it is candida..(thrush)..both submandibular lymph nodes are palpable and enlarged from the original size..now i found my cervical node at the angle of jaw is also palpable and slightly enlarged(left side)..i dont have any other serious illness except cold and fever which is ocurring twice a year...

what is ur opinion about this problem? do i need a hiv rna pcr,cd4 count test? my recent test kit was sd bioline and the authorities said that it combines both hiv1 and 2..is it right?

is am a rare person, not devoloping antibodies or infected with a unusual strain of virus?

dr wohl ..i dont know what to do..oral thrush ..palpable nodes..rapid tests negative still after 4 year of suspicious exposure..not married because of this..i want to go more in my life....please please help.....

Response from Dr. Wohl

I really do not think you have HIV. Your repeated HIV antibody tests are negative. Further, thrush is a late stage development in HIV. As you remain concerned, you can get an CD4 cell count, and if you really need it to calm your nerves, a viral load (HIV RNA). If the CD4 count is normal, you clearly do NOT have AIDS. Likewise, the undetectable HIV RNA should convince you that the preponderance of data demonstrate no HIV.

If you have swollen lymph nodes this needs to be investigated by your doctor.
