HIV from nipples
May 5, 2012
Hi Dr I really appreciate all you efforts and answers and support all the time My question, does the HIV can be transmit from nipples sucking, in case the girl have the HIV positive, because we all know that the mother can transmit the HIV to her baby through breast feed but what is the situation when having sex?????
Response from Ms. Southall
Hi Breastfeeding may transmit to babies in part due to the quantity of milk which they ingest. An adult who gets a drop or two of milk in their mouth could theoretically get HIV if they had an open area in their mouth. There is not a great probablility of transmission in this manner, although there is a very small possibility and there is no evidence to support transmission through breast milk among adults.
Be well and stay safe, Shannon
