| Sex with HIV poz Apr 11, 2012 My bf is on ART and his viral load has been undetectable for many years. But 1 month ago, he stopped all his medication for 2 weeks and he had shingles and cold sores outbreak. A week after our last encounter I came down with fever, muscle ache, sore throat, headache and male genital yeast infection. Could he have infected me? Does the above resemble ARS symptoms? |

Response from Mr. Cordova
Hi there: It's unlikely that his viral load would rebound in such a short amount of time. Also, you don't mention the details of your sexual encounter. Was there penetrative sex? Was a condom used? If he was the penetrative partner, did he ejaculate inside of you? Was your yeast infection diagnosed by a doctor? Your symptoms while similar to ARS, are too vague to use as a diagnostic tool. I would go in for a baseline HIV test. If that test is negative, I would suggest a follow-up test at the three month mark, and a final test at the six month mark IF you want to be extra cautious. I only suggest the six month test BECAUSE he is KNOWN to have HIV. I hope this helps. In health, Richard | |||||||||
