HIV risk from fingering "I might be a lost cause, please answer for my girlfriend's sake!!! PLEASE."
Mar 17, 2012
Hello, its the second time I'm asking a question. I'm completely desperate. Please answer this one. I had encounter with a lady who I used a finger with a one-day-old cut on the index joint (no bleeding) I understand that I have to wait 3 months for 100% - sure results. I am showing some of the symptoms of early infection which I understand can be out of anxiety. But the REAL question is this, if I have been infected, what are the chances of my virgin-girlfriend (who we only do oral sex and hand jobs) getting infected? I read about the necessity of Viral load being high for infection but I also see that you advise suspecting infected people to wear condoms with their wives and husbands! Should I be worried about this? or just my own agony is enough??? PLEASE DOCTOR!!!
Response from Mr. Glenn
Thanks for your question,
Let's take this one slow for a second...
You do not have HIV from this, because you had no risk to get it. Therefore, your "real question" doesn't even need to be answered.
A one-day-old cut is not a way for HIV to get into your body, it just isn't. If it were an open, bleeding, wide cut I have a feeling that you would have mentioned that. Also, if that were the case you probably wouldn't have been able to finger any with that.
This sounds like something that'd been causing you a high level of distress. I hope that my answer helps that feeling subside. If it doesn't a couple of other things might help: 1) Give yourself some time to absorb the information I've told you (after being wound up to tight, it can take a second to let go); and 2) Consider talking to a counselor/therapist who can help you manage this anxiety.
You are not a lost cause.
Hope this helps!
