HIV Exposure - first 24 hour medicine?

Mar 11, 2012

I have tested negative every year, yesterday I was exposed to anal sexy with a positive partner. Q: Are there drugs I can take immediately to potentially kill the virus IF I was exposed? Also: given he did not ejactulate in me, what is my risk?

Response from Ms. Southall

Hi There are medications you can take within 72 hours of exposure. It's call PEP or Post Exposure Prophylaxis. The chances are smaller because he didn't ejaculate but being the bottom partner does increase your risk of exposure.

Be well and stay safe, Shannon

Can I be infected when I take an HIV/STD test?
