| Hiv test results if Hepatitis C positive Jan 3, 2012 Doctor I have a question about testing for HIV if I am Hepatitis C positive. Does having hepatitis effect the results? I had a PCR at 6 weeks post exposure, antibody test 15 weeks post exposure, and an oral antibody test at 22 1/2 weeks post exposure. All were negitive. |

Response from Ms. Southall
Good news, having Hepatitis C does not affect the results of an HIV test. With a negative result at your 22 week test, you are HIV negative, as long as there were no other risks of transmission during this time. If there were then you need to be tested again. But from what you describe the answer is you are HIV free. Rapid HIV tests, whether oral swab or blood are very accurate at 28 days, and conclusive at 90. In kindness, Shannon | |||||||||
