nervous about gay friends
Aug 2, 2011
I have many gay friends and do not know that they are hiv positive but anyone could be. (One of them was in a relationship with an hiv positive person for a couple years). Anyway, I have a bit of paranoia when it comes to them being around my young child and touching him. Here is one example of a situation i worry about. One of my gay friends touched my son's cheek. I did not see any blood or anything on his hands at all. However, my son had just been kissed by another friend who had a raspy beard and so his skin was a bit red from it. The skin was not open or anything but the next day or two the area had a tiny scab as if it had an abrasion. I assume that his first layer of skin just got scraped a little from the rough beard. So i began to worry that if my gay friend touched his cheek which had this little irritation and the friend happened to have a cut i did not see or scratched a bug bite or something then it would go into my child' blood stream. I know this sounds crazy but do not want to worry about gay friends and my kid. If there is skin to skin contact would there have to be visible blood? My son always has scrapes from playing and such and i do not want to feel this way about my friends. Thanks a lot.

Why are you only worried about your gay friends? HIV doesn't really care if you're gay, straight or Tea Party bi-curious crazy.
Your fears are completely unwarranted. HIVers are not radioactive, frevinsakes! HIV is not transmitted by casual contact. It's highly unlikely that if your gay friends happened to be virally enhanced they would bleed fresh HIV-tainted blood into a fresh open wound on your kid.
