Is it 3 months or 4 months for HIV testing if you take PEP?
Apr 25, 2011
Doctor, I am taking PEP. I read that I have to wait for 3 months after the last day of PEP and not 3 months from the date of incident, to have reliable HIV tests. Could you please advise which one is it - 3 months from the date of incident or 3 months from the date of PEP completion?
Thank you much in advance for your response!
Response from Dr. Frascino
The published guidelines for post-PEP HIV-antibody testing recommend follow-up HIV-antibody tests at four to six weeks, three months and six months from the date of exposure (not the last day of PEP).
