late seroconversion
Apr 21, 2011

Hello Doc, One night i made a horrible mistake of being reckless and having unprotected sex. Since then i have experainced all symptoms, but what worries me most is a swollen node after 3 months which i dont think is part of ARS but could be part of the following stage in the asymptotic phase. a 12 week test was negative but how much can i be concern with this swollen node, can this be a case of late seroconversion. 3 months have been draining as a result i have accepted the 12 weeks and wants to conclude this to move on, however with the swollen node seems i got long way to go. With the wide ranges of symptoms in HIV may not be good indicators but swollen lympe node after 12 weeks seems to be another issue which could indicate the following long stage of HIV after the intial stage of ARS.

Im still in disbelief that this happens especially since i never engage in any risky behaviour, but i guess it only takes one shot. I wish i was alittle more aware and educated about HIV, as a result i have donated to your organization $10.

Response from Dr. Frascino

Hi,

An isolated single swollen lymph node is not worrisome for or suggestive of HIV acute retroviral syndrome (ARS) or HIV disease. The swollen lymph nodes associated with HIV are generalized (appearing in many locations around the body simultaneously). Your negative 12-week HIV-antibody test indicates you are HIV negative. WOO-HOO!

Thanks for your support of The Robert James Frascino AIDS Foundation (www.concertedeffort.org).

Be well. Stay well.

Dr. Bob
