I had needle stick injury from th eneedle disposal box, was 9mos old lying for long time, needle was insulin needle and lancets used to prick finger. i did start truvada but was found to have Hepb infection with only Hep Bcore and surface ab positive. should i continue the truvada given the black box warning about truvada nad Hep B. I don;t knoe the source of my HepB infection, never had any blood transfusions in past. I am from india though.

Response from Dr. Frascino

HIV post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) with Truvada (or anything else) was not warranted. A needle stick from a needle disposal box that is nine months old is not a risk for HIV transmission. I'd recommend discontinuing PEP. Follow up with your doctor regarding your hepatitis B test results.
