|PEP during first trimester of pregnancy.
Sep 17, 2010
Is PEP medicine safe during first three months of pregnancy? Please suggest PEP regimen which are safe during first trimester of pregnancy.
| Response from Dr. Frascino
PEP can be used during pregnancy if indicated. The best regimen depends on many factors in addition to being pregnant. If you've had an HIV-exposure risk, you should immediately see an HIV specialist (or go to the nearest ER or urgent care center). The HIV specialist will evaluate your risk, review your medical history and then make recommendations as to whether PEP should be used and if so, what regimen would be best for your particular situation. Please note PEP should be started as soon as possible and no later than 72 hours after exposure.
