Hi Dr. I am writing because I just had a colon hydrotherapy treatment for the first time today and realized that they did not use a disposable speculum. I am worried and I wanted to know if hiv can be contracted in this manner? I know they are suppossed to sterilize the equipment but how do i know that they did after they told me they would use a disposable one but didn't. Are there other health risks? What can I do now? thank you...

Colon hydrotherapy??? Is that like sending your rectum through the carwash?
I have no way of specifically answering your question, as colon hydrotherapy is not a recommended medical treatment.
Anal speculums used by physicians are either disposable or sterilized per the usual universal precautions procedures.
I strongly doubt you were exposed to HIV. I would also caution against alternative medical therapies.
